Scientific concepts for upper primary level are mostly explorable in day to day life. For e.g. Separation of materials - the students can set curd using full cream milk and churn it to separate the butter. Such projects can enhance their life skills too. Another project can be observing the sunset and sunrise daily and noting the time and positions of sun both times. This will arise their curiosity in natural phenomena and they can understand concepts of directions, solstice, equinox etc.
Most of the concepts in science are to be learnt through observation. The causes, effects and preventive measures of different types of pollution can be assigned as project activity to a group of learners. This will imbibe good values and ethics.
The project assigned to the learners should include hands on activities and investigation so that they can have clear understanding of the concepts.Students must be provided some project works that involves a lot of observation, role play, research, exploration, involvement , field trips etc.
Group projects should be research based, data collection and interpretation, surveys, interviews, art integration and interdisciplinary. For Example producing an audio visual graphic novel by a group of students and teachers on a sub topic from the subject matter. It can also include adopting a monument or providing hygiene awareness or educating children in a slum.
Project work helps the students to develop a research aptitude in them. It helps them to place their data systematically , analyse it and infer from the data information.
